I've been flying and writing about consumer drones for nine years, from the first wave of foldables to today's sub-250-gram class. I hold an FAA Part 107 certificate, and I fly every drone I write about — usually for a week, in real wind, before I put a number on it.
How we test
Each drone gets at least a week: hover stability, wind behaviour on the same exposed coastal path, the same three camera moves, indoor flying with guards, and handing it to someone who has never flown. Scores weight real-world behaviour and footage over spec sheets. The method is written out in the buying guide.
How we handle facts
Prices, ratings, review counts and availability are taken from the retailer's own product page and dated on the page where they appear. If a figure can't be verified — maximum transmission range being the obvious one — we label it as a manufacturer claim instead of pretending we measured it. If sources conflict, we leave the number out.
